Cooperative Extension
is the world's largest informal educational system.  It delivers information to help people help themselves improve the quality of their lives.  It is funded by the unique partnership of federal, state, and county governments.

The staff provides practical, problem-solving information to the county residents.  Local advisory groups help direct the educational programs.  Subject-matter specialists at Penn State support the staff.

Educational programs are conducted by using publications and fact sheets, newsletters, correspondence courses, radio, TV, news articles, exhibits, seminars, workshops, meetings, computer-assisted instruction, and personal or telephone contacts.

Family Living's educational effort focuses on: management of family resources; food and nutrition; family relationships and parent and caregiver education; housing; and textiles and clothing.

Agricultural programs provide information on: home gardening; insect and disease control; horticulture; pesticides; livestock, crop production and marketing; forest and water conservation; and farm management.

The 4-H program aims to help youth learn practical skills, develop responsibility, leadership and citizenship.  Project materials are provided in more than 150 subjects.  4-H operates mainly through clubs led by volunteers that are supported by staff.  4-H'ers may participate in activities such as tours, camps, exchanges, and workshops.
