Housing Services in Centre County

A guide to emergency, transitional and permanent affordable housing.

Emergency Housing / Homeless

Individuals and/or families seeking emergency shelter, please contact one of the county homeless shelters:
  • Centre House – Shelter for men, women, and children. They can be contacted at (814) 237-5508
  • Centre County Women's Resource Center – Domestic Violence Emergency Shelter for Women and children (814) 234-5222
  • Centre County Youth Service Bureau Burrowes Street Youth Haven – Shelter for males and females aged 12 to17 years old. They can be contacted at (814) 234-2100
  • Centre County Youth Service Bureau Stepping Stones – Assist males and females aged 16 to 21 years old with emergency and transitional housing and case management services. They can be reached at (814) 234-2791.
  • Out of the Cold: Centre County – Assists homeless individuals ages 18 and up who are homeless during the months of November – March. Local churches provide overnight stays as needed to those seeking help. For assistance, please contact OOTC at (814) 852-8864.

Eviction / Near Homeless
Individuals and/or families seeking financial assistance to resolve eviction and/or foreclosure or move into a unit due to homelessness could be eligible for the Rental / Mortgage Assistance Program. This program, provided by funding through the Homeless Assistance Program (HAP) of the Department of Public Welfare, is coordinated by Interfaith Human Services. The assistance is a one time payment of rent, security deposit, and/or mortgage payment to resolve back payment or move into another unit due to homelessness. Funding is limited and a first come first serve basis each month.

Bridge Housing
The Bridge Housing Program provides a transitional housing opportunity to clients who are living in shelter or temporary housing situations due to homelessness. The time limited supportive living arrangements provide rental subsidy and case management to prepare clients for long term success. Funding is provided by the Homeless Assistance Program (HAP) through the Department of Public Welfare.
Case Management
Housing Case Management provides service coordination to assist residents with obtaining and maintaining affordable housing. The service includes life skills, referrals, budgeting, and assistance with finding available resources in our community. Funding is provided by the Homeless Assistance Program (HAP) through the Department of Public Welfare.
