Prevention Services
Prevention services provide education to individuals about the misuse and abuse of chemical substances. The goal of this service is to prevent chemical dependency through education. Programs are usually geared toward children and adolescents.

The Centre County Youth Service Bureau is the primary prevention provider in Centre County, responsible for the majority of goals and objectives in the County's prevention plan.

In addition, Centre County offered mini-grant opportunities to grass-roots organizations and community organizations to provide prevention services in the county. Applications are solicited each spring, with awards being made by the Centre County Drug and Alcohol Planning Council in May of each year.

Centre County Drug and Alcohol also holds a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Pennsylvania National Guard Counterdrug Program to receive additional prevention support for activities in the county. Sergeant Jason Blauch provided support throughout the year, particularly by mentoring youth in the local drop-in centers.

Through funding secured through a Federal Congressional Earmark Grant from SAMHSA (Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration), Centre County Drug and Alcohol supports evidence-based programming in each of the five county school districts.

Through a Drug-Free Communities Grant (also through SAMHSA), Centre County Drug and Alcohol supports efforts by the Care Partnership: Centre Region Communities that Care© and the Centre County Communities that Care©.
