Transportation Office

Services

The Centre County Office of Transportation provides transportation services to residents of Centre County through various programs and agencies and maintains the County’s vehicle fleet.

Centre County transportation is a “shared-ride,” and demand-response service.  This means that passengers will share the vehicle with other passengers and must make reservations for service no later than 2:00 pm the day before transportation is needed.  More than one day’s notice for placing reservations is recommended to ensure service availability.

To place a reservation with Centre County Office of Transportation, please call 814-355-6807 between the office hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

Guidelines

Our transportation is a door-to-door service.  Centre County Office of Transportation employees are not obligated or responsible for aiding passengers in any other way.  Transportation personnel do not lift or carry passengers, although they may provide some physical guidance or assistance.  Centre County Office of Transportation does not provide escorts for those who may require assistance; passengers are welcome to provide their own medically-necessary escort.  Any escort must be able to physically assist the client and the Centre County Office of Transportation must be informed of a needed escort at the time an appointment is scheduled.

Centre County Office of Transportation provides lift van service for the physically challenged.   Physically challenged passengers must inform the Office of their need to utilize the lift-van each time they schedule an appointment.

Scheduling Procedures

Clients must be registered with Centre County Office of Transportation before riding.  Registration may be done online for Senior-shared Ride and Medical Assistance applicants at Penndot’s Find My Ride website or registration can be done over the phone for any client.

Passengers must schedule appointments with Centre County Office of Transportation in advance; we cannot provide transportation on the same day it is requested (same-day service) unless the passenger is willing to pay the full fare cost of that trip.   Passengers can schedule appointments up to 2 months in advance and no later than 2:00 pm on the business day before the scheduled appointment.

Reoccurring trips can be scheduled with a subscription, provided each appointment is at the same location and same time.  Although our vans are on the road from 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., please schedule your appointments with drop-offs no earlier than 8:00 am and pick-ups no later than 4:00 pm in the Bellefonte and State College areas.  This allows for sufficient travel time.  Outlying areas may require later drop-offs and earlier pick-ups.

Cancellations / Changes

Passengers must cancel their appointments with the Centre County Office of Transportation as soon as they know they do not need the service and prior to their scheduled pickup.  All changes must be made in advance; we cannot change or add destinations on the day of the trip.

Mental Health / Intellectual Disabilities passengers may not cancel or change their transportation appointments themselves; their assigned counselor or program representative must contact the office and make the changes for them.

Passenger Guidelines

Passengers must conduct themselves in an orderly and polite manner when riding in County vehicles.   Eating, drinking, and any use of tobacco products are strictly prohibited in County vehicles.
