Dear Central PA Partners,

I am reaching out because I didn’t want you to miss out on an exciting investment opportunity for your Centre County/State College area startups!

You may have heard that Steve Case (AOL/Time Warner – Revolution Ventures – “The Third Wave”’) is visiting York/Lancaster/Harrisburg on October 10th  as part of his “Rise of the Rest” tour which is an effort to showcase exciting startups outside of Silicon Valley and drive more venture capital to them. You can find more info here: https://www.riseofrest.com/

As part that October 10th visit, there will be a pitch competition where eight finalists will be chosen to compete for a $100K investment from Steve Case personally.  In addition to the chance for investment, both winners and finalists from previous visits have enjoyed media exposure as a result of their participation.  Here is an example of national coverage already underway: https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2017/06/26/jd-vance-steve-case-want-heartlands-start-up-pitches/103105054/

While the application tab on the Rise of the Rest website notes your startups must be “headquartered within a 75 mile radius of the tour stop city”, we have confirmed with the Rise of the Rest staff that they welcome and encourage applicants from the Centre County/State College area!  We are Central PA!  Other eligibility requirements are:

  • Have a live product/service or be in active beta.
  • Have measurable performance indicators such as revenue, customers, successful beta results.
  • Currently be raising - or have near-term plans to raise - an early-stage round.

Applications are due by 5:00 P.M. on August 15th. You can apply here: https://riseoftherest.submittable.com/submit

We encourage you to apply, and if you have any questions or concerns, you can contact John Sider at Ben Franklin Technology Partners for more information at 717-948-6547 or johnsider@cnp.benfranklin.org.   Follow along on twitter at @riseofrest, #CentralPArises and #RiseofRest!
