[ARCHIVED] Emergency Watershed Protection Projects Completed

In October 2016 a storm impacted various areas in Centre County that caused flash flooding and resulted in damage to over 400 homes and businesses.

A Federal Disaster Declaration for public assistance opened federal funding in December and the Board of Commissioners along with the Conservation District requested federal aid. After evaluating more than 30 potential sites affected by the flooding, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) confirmed that three sites involving ten landowners were eligible for funding. Through the Emergency Watershed Protection Program USDA-NRCS was able to provide 75% of the project funding and PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) provided the required 25% funding match. The county entered into grant agreements and were awarded $187,800 in funding. Steven Krieger Excavating of Saxton, PA was awarded the bid for all three projects. Work commenced on the three project sites in mid-July 2017 and the final inspections were completed on August 4, 2017.
